When people talk about going on holiday to Orlando a few key things always spring to mind, the hours of sunshine, the famous sea world and the multitude of amazing theme parks. But if you are not the type to relish the thought of fast rollercoasters and spine chilling rides you don’t have to discount this city as the perfect holiday destination just yet.

Hidden behind the flashy parks and tourist hotspots, Orlando is filled with interesting and exciting things for visitors to see and do. The city is the perfect place to get into the American way of life, so, if you can, try to spend a little time away from the theme parks and get to know the other side of this fascinating city.

If you’re looking for some interesting and fun activities away from the glitz and glamour of the theme parks take a trip to ‘Old Orlando’ which is filled with historical buildings and a fascinating history. Once there you will find plenty of theatres and museums to keep you occupied along with some great bars and clubs in which to spend the evening. If you want to soak up some of the Florida sun then head east to visit some of the smaller beachside towns that neighbour Orlando.

If you like to dine out on holiday you don’t have to be in Disneyworld to experience some of the best food in the city. Orlando has over five thousand restaurants to help fill your belly, ranging from cheap and cheerful delis to upmarket eateries. When you’re out and about keep your eyes open for the various farmers market and stalls dotted around the city centre. No matter what your budget is you will be sure to find some great food to enjoy here.

Orlando is also a great place to go shopping and with over nine different malls in the area, it’s the perfect place to stock up on your favourite things. The city offers plenty of designer boutiques and bargain stores so no matter what your budget is you will be sure to find something to take your fancy. Get out of the centre of the city to find the more interesting fashion houses where you can purchase some new togs before returning home.

Just like the shopping malls some of the well known orlando hotels will be situated close to the popular theme parks but if you’re looking for something a little more authentic try to stay clear of the themed rooms and flashy buildings and head to the more humble bed and breakfasts on offer to get a real taste of Orlando.
